Local Space Marine Painting Competition

Posted by Bitzbox

Last week I attended and participated in a local Space Marine Painting competition at my FLGS Boundless Realms. The competition had a good turnout with painters from varied ages and skill levels. What made this competition fun and balanced was that the best painter or best painted model doesn't guarantee victory. Each participant had to paint the Space Marine for a custom chapter and they also had to come up with a chapter symbol, name and some fluff for their chapter. Points were awarded for the best of these as well as for uniqueness of colour scheme.

There were a small number of less serious entries including my own 'Barbie' marine. I wanted to paint a Space Marine pink as it's a colour I've not worked with a lot so I thought it would be a good opportunity to practice it. The Barbie theme came about after coming up with a silly battle cry of 'Come on Astartes, let's go party' which I felt was too funny to not use. I'm afraid my mind works in weird ways. Other comical entries included the Mr Blobby marine and the McDonalds Marine.1398265_712676132157020_2771387146024532820_o 10680000_712675878823712_4757119595710394305_o 10380540_712676142157019_3137530087677749977_o 10636921_712676135490353_583992641546865124_o 10679485_712675988823701_3146664498190843358_o

Below are the top three places from left to right, below them are the chapter names with their fluff. Congratulations to them!

1st.  Scarred Hands; These Space Marines are mostly made up of Apothecaries and like nothing more than to replace any body part in a heartbeat and wear the scars with pride. Also the chapter master may of at one point used the arm of a fallen chaos lord as a replacement arm for himself (HERESY!!!!).

2nd.  Lords of Atom; What do you get if you give Space Marines Nuclear Fusion? Neon blue and green crazys thats what. These space marines love strange forbidden technology so much, that they work almost exclusively with the mechanicus on mars and it is rumored that they worship another God over the God Emperor (HERESY!!!!)

3rd.  Scions of Abraxes; With the destruction of their homeworld Abraxes IV. This second founding Chapter is now fleet based. Originally named the Sons Of Abraxes the chapter changed their name in remembrance of this event. Curiously a previously undetected Tyranid hive fleet was destroyed by the nova that claimed their homeworld and it is hinted that the Alpha legion may had somthi.......(HERESY!!!!)

Animosity – The Cleansing of Arrigata (15th of June 2013)

ANIMOSITY - The Cleansing of Arrigata

Hello there chaps. This weekend saw the first Animosity 'Themed one-dayer'. We descended upon Warhammer World to play a non-ticketed event, The Cleansing of Arrigata. Arrigata is a pre-heresy event in which the World Eaters, led by the raging Angron, massacred Separatists who had dared defy Imperial rule.

The game was excellent, and for an Apocalypse scale game ran very smoothly and everybody had a great time.

Angron was beastly, he survived almost the entire Separatist force firing on him only to lose his final wound when he blew up a tank and took the full brunt of the exploding vehicle in the face... great memorable games are made of such though.

The World Eaters won the day, but Arrigata was less of a massacre and more of a scrapyard, the Separatist forces being made up almost entirely of tanks. Imperial rule will not be questioned so easily in future... whatever!

July 27th and 28th will see Animosity - In the Hive of the Dead, take place in Mansfield Woodhouse. You can get tickets to join the fun here on Bitzbox, in the Special section. Bitzbox will once again be sponsoring our Conversion Competition which we thank them for again. Beyond the Hive of the Dead we also plan to play, Animosity - Skalathrax, Birth of the Betrayer on 4th of August at Warhammer World, a second themed on-dayer for players with post heresy World Eater/Khorne and Emperors Children/Slaanesh forces. Information can be found on our forum http://www.animosity40k.proboards.com and on our faceboon page http://www.facebook.com/animositycampaigns

We are also playing out the Ullanor Crusade, pre-heresy Imperial versus Ork in November on the 9th and 10th.

Hopefully some of you can join us at these events.

Here are some pics taken from my phone this weekend.

Scrap Challenge: A Duel

Posted by Bitzbox

Over the weekend I sponsored and took part in (just for fun) a scrap challenge event at my friendly local game store, Boundless Realms. This was hopefully the first of many Bitzbox sponsored events at the store and it was very enjoyable. The theme for this Scrap Challenge was to create a Duel. If you're not familiar with how a scrap challenge work you basically have a load of random bits in the middle of the table and you have to use bits to make a conversation based on a specific theme. I took several photos on the day, including all the participants entries which were all amazing.

Two of the store owners and myself judged the competition but we couldn't help having a go ourselves. Below are our entries.

My very basic attempt has an Orc stabbing an Ogre through the neck

A duel doesn't always have to be a fight, how about some checkers?

An Wizard with a wooden horse riding a Skink vs an Orc also riding on a skink... yep

And now onto everyone else's entries:

All of which are excellent duels as I'm sure you would agree. After much deliberation we narrowed it down to a final three. In third place was this 'duel' which consists of three space marines playing Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Now we move onto the final two. I don't know how long we were mulling over who should win out of these. It felt like days but in reality it was probably 15 minutes. It was close and the store owners were kind enough to give a second place prize as it was so close. So in second place we have this one. I love the poses of the guys on the base.

There of course could only be one winner and I think this one deserved it. I really like how the assault marine is jumping down towards the Ork. The Ork himself is also really awesome and looks boss with a Chaos Lord lightning claw.
