In my last post I talked about allies in 40K and mentioned how I’d like to make a small Tau force for my gaming group which people can use allies if need be. If you’ve followed my blog, Facebook page etc. you’ll know I already have several armies on the go including Chaos Space Marines, Daemons, Tyranids and my Pre Heresy Imperial Fists so it may seem silly that I am taking on yet another army project before finishing the others off but the truth is I get bored painting the same stuff quickly and most of my projects are just ongoing. I can’t see a definitive end for any army I start in all honesty.
So over Facebook and Twitter I posted this image showing some Tau colour schemes I came up with. I wanted to use colours that were not dominant in the above armies I mentioned. These were painted with simple basecoats to see what the schemes would look like hence why the painting is quite poor on them. The majority of votes were for number 4, which was my personal favourite also.
I have no experience in painting Tau before I painted the above models so these are quite new to me. I had to do a few google image searches of Tau models to see how people have painted theirs and how they painted different parts of the model. I also wanted to add a third colour to this scheme so I used an online too called Kuler to find a complimentary colour for this scheme and it came up with the green.
White isn’t the easiest of colours to paint so as you can see I have yet to have the smoothest of finishes but practice makes perfect so hopefully by the time I get to the end of painting this army we will see an improvement. More thin coats are required me thinks.
I have also never used the GW snow effects before so I thought this would be a great army to use that on also. Naturally it works quite well for an army with a white colour scheme. I am currently working on 3 more Fire Warriors and a Crisis Suit so I’ll be sharing them on a future post.
